Researchers for Missouri University of Science and technology and the University of Missouri  Columbia have made a robot that can examine dangerous areas.

The remote controlled robot comes with an infrared camera and LIDAR technology that is Light Detection and Ranging. It weighs about 200 pounds and looks like NASA rovers fro Mars. It can be sent into dangerous areas and buildings. The LIDAR sends out laser points, to bounce off objects and give a feedback on it. It can then wirelessly pass on 3-D images to a computer. Researchers have already mapped houses, business centres, mines and caves. The robot will assist in war zones and hazardous situations. It can also detect structural damage, which may help engineers.
